Otoplasty, also known as cosmetic ear surgery, is a procedure aimed at modifying the shape, position, or size of the ears.

Individuals often seek otoplasty if they find the protrusion of their ears bothersome, particularly when they noticeably stick out from the head. Additionally, individuals may consider this surgical option to address misshapen ears resulting from either an injury or a birth defect.

Otoplasty is suitable for individuals at any age, provided that their ears have reached full size, typically occurring after the teenage era and extending into adulthood.

In instances where a child is born with prominent ears or specific concerns related to ear shape, splinting may present a viable corrective measure when initiated promptly after birth.
Otoplasty Recovery
Otoplasty surgery is commonly performed on an outpatient basis, lasting approximately 2 hours and utilizing general anesthesia. Patients may experience mild discomfort, with temporary bruising and swelling being common side effects.
Your doctor will recommend wearing a head dressing for the initial two days following the ear pinning surgery. Additionally, an athletic headband is advised for a week during the day and while sleeping for the first two weeks, designed to protect the ears and promote a quick healing process.
Returning to work is feasible for most ear surgery patients after seven days, despite the normal occurrence of swelling and bruising that may take a few weeks to subside. Strenuous exercise or heavy lifting should be avoided for three weeks as part of the recovery process. Fortunately, Otoplasty recovery is typically uneventful, and complications are rare.
